When I was younger I would say that the beat matters more in a song, but as I get older, I focus more on what is being said than how the beat sounds. A lot of people tend to favor songs with catchy hooks & beats. I notice that my favorite songs have both tight lyrics and beats. What I want to know is "do the lyrics of a song enhance the beat"?

It enhances the beat to those who good lyrics matters to.

Sometimes, its just the beat sometimes its just the lyrics It depends. But Truly Great Songs Have Both.
Like R.I.P. or Face of a Desperate man by Spice 1 those are great songs. Most rappers today sound like a Commercial or just talk about shit only the ultra rich can afford and that shit is gay a grown man talkin about his outfit and diamonds how cute he is sounds like some bitch shit to me. Nobody tells any stories
and thats what your supposed to do. I got endless stories dont these jokers got a life to talk about.
Lyrics really are the song you can have a song with little or no music and it can be a hit but an instrumental has no chance. When I give cds to my friends most the time they take it out before its over becuse they want to hear somthing with some words.

heck yea the lyrics enhance the beat... but you guys are right there is alot of crap lyrics on the market... like shawty lo.... the beat was STUPID on that "foolish" but then this "FOOL" (wich is a great word to explain it) comes in talkin about "im like na na na na, im laughin at these niggas like ha ha ha ha....."


okay people... u know and i know and she knows thats some weak ass lyrics with no effort involved... i guess all u gotta do is be a former dboy with a lil money... have a good producer.. and ur in the door!!! i dont care tho cuz music aint goin out of style wether or not the genres do im versatile so if one goes im on the next thing.. but the lyrics do definitely enhance a song like look at a song with a melodic hook.. sometimes the beats are really simple but on point and then a melodic hook is like another instrument that brings the beat out completely... jus my opinion tho

you can either make a simple beat with a complexed melody or a complexed beat with a simple melody. If you do both complexed then the vocals won't blend in right.

it's all about what you say(thought out content) and how you say it = great with a nice beat. But these days the fast food music thats everywhere now only implements the "how you say it" part, which is nonsense words with pre-school combination put out to sound catchy.
