ayo just wat to say this has been a good discussion and a healthy debate. at the end of the day its all love.
as far as the lil jon comments, i really just wanted to kick up some dirt. turn some heads. i def do respect him. tho i stand by my previos statements and opinions, thats all they are...my opinions and i respect all of yours. i dont hate on the south or heavy synth beats. im just ol' skool. i like goodie mob and outkast among others. 2 live crew sparked the southern movement. thers even new shit i like. 36mafia has been puttin out some fire for a while now. but i digress. at the end of the day we all have one common cause; make beats and get money.
peace and respect, stay right my brothers, 1 love.

Let me add these to that list:
Diddy / Biggie - Ready to Die & Life after death
Daz Dillinger / Tupac - All eyez on me
These 3 records were the peak of hip hop before the assassinations of our 2 greatest. EACH album contained 95% sampled beats
Not to mention the fact that both artists "Stole" each others beats to drop their beefs on.
If you cant admit P Diddy as a musical genius - then you dont know real hip hop. Jodeci, Mary j Blige, 112, Total, SWV, Usher, Lil' Kim, TLC, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men.... every one of those artists that diddy has produced for - their singles or tracks were hits & are sampled beats.

Ok Dj Premier is not a musical genius, he's a really good sampler but no musical genius. People like Hanz Zimmer, Danny Elfman and John Williams are musical geniuses. They do scores for movies if you don't know. They get paid insane amounts of money to score movies and their music is probably the best of the best right now. They NEVER sample. So I don't know how you guys get off thinking samplers are musical geniuses.

Why would you quote me & not touch on anything i said ?
So you are saying that one of the most renown producers - Diddy - is not a genius?
genius is not measured in money might i add!

You are %100 correct, genius is not measured in money, it is measured in talent and skill. People like Pdiddy have made themselves big by taking the works of others, which I guess is smart in it's own way but not in a musical way.

Yes - sampling is taking from something else - but people like Diddy - take it and create something either TOTALLY new and make it great in a way that you dont even recognize the original. Or you outperform the original & take it to an even higher plain.
Ya kno - rock & roll has been doin this DECADES before hiphop - im sure your familiar with "Covers" - but nobody talks about when Rolling Stones performs someone elses track or when the Beatles did the same & they made hits out of them.

I think Cover songs are lame too, but a lot of artists only do cover songs at shows and they are usually not on the albums.
I just don't think you can be a musical genius if you didn't make the piece of music.

for real man. there is no musical genius in hip-hop. you got to be composing synphanies like mozart and dem cats or doing something truly inovative like jimi hendrix. what people like dj premier and rza do might not be "musical" genius, but genius none the less. respect.
p.s. once again, dont know nothing = does know something

damn why people get so bitter i was just originally puttin out there that a producer creates his own sound that makes people come to him a sampler just mixes some loops wit a drum beat there is no reason for any hate wit this topic and 2nd off if you don't like reading this kinda stuff and stating your point of view then why read it. I never seen nothing that said HEY READ THIS the topic was DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAMPLERS AND PRODUCERS. the whole point of this which has been stated already by other people in a round about way it takes very little or no musical skill to make a sampled beat so the longer you do that the less respect your gonna get, and then you wonder why "hip hop" is dying maybe it's cuz you can only sample a song so many times before it's old. So NO HIP HOP IS NOT DYING THE SOUTH JUST RUN IT NOW. The reason for this is they playin there own music and very few of the tracks involve sampleing i mean yeah there's a few out there that sample but i'm talkin bout the crunk style of beats and the dirty dirty south gangsta stuff like jeezy dirty boyz that type of stuff i'd like to see more music like that but expand from dirty south back to the roots of hip hop.
