thought i would bring up a topic for everyone to share their thoughts.

I really want to make a living out of making beats for now, and hopefully full songs wit me singin RnB club/crunk. im gittin to that age where im old enough to live on my own, its one of my futer goals to buy my own food, and pay rent from producing rap or singin with a lable...even a small start ya kno....anyone feel the same?

it would be a hard start to sell enough beats to support myself. and hopefully if i stay dedicated it will work
....but sometimes being "dedicated doesnt work out...=/

they say if u follow ur dreams till the end you'll get it, it being the dream you've always wanted to happen.
if you've made even a small living from hip hop, share your success, or if this is ur dream as well, show some love!!! PEACE

you know the sang "dont' quit your day job"... that has a negative connotation to it. but don't think of it like that. that sang is really good, i use it in a positive way. Just because i have a job on the side, or i go to school, or do whatever to get by (even if it has nothing to do with my dream)... i still do it. it doesn't mean that just because you have a 9-5, you don't believe in your dream. that just means you are not a bum. The best thing i found out in doing this is when you go to school or have your 9-5 job, is if you can apply the skill you learn from your job/education to your achieve your long term goals/your dream. This is very good advice i was given and I will share with ya'll. Let me know if it is confusing. Another part of achieving your dream is to look professional. Having all your audio/music mastered and mixed correctly, having professional looking graphics/design, and not looking like a homeless hippie when you meet professionals in the industry is a huge part of success. Get your image looking sharp. I have an engineer i can go to, and i do all my own graphics and web design. if anybody needs graphics or myspace page designs holla at me. i am willing to work with anybody's budget!

man hell yeah this my dream i do have a full time job lol dont get me wrong but if i could do this everyday of my life, thats where its at im showing some love dawg i feel ya....

I'm not trying to be negative here but over %95 of this site, that I've heard (including me) don't have what it takes to be a major producer right now. I've sent off my best tracks to labels before and never heard anything back from them. The people who are major producers are great at what they do and make lots of money for a reason.

My suggestion is to do what you love and try to make some money online with your beats.

I didn't say quit making beats. What I try to do is listen to my beats and then listen to mainstream instrumentals and 9 times out of 10 the mainstream beats are WAY better. The only way to get better is to be really harsh on yourself.

I see too many people making beats that thing they are amazing and in reality they are awful.

That wasn't a shot at you, I haven't listened to your stuff yet.

oh. i know that was a shot at me. and the thing is, is that i DO agree with you. I just put explain it in a different way. Other than saying 95% of people don't make the cut, i say 95% of people need to step it up in order to get there. maybe you don't understand the difference. and to most people they will think what i'm saying isn't that important. Maybe I am wrong about you, maybe you are a positive person, but the vibe i'm getting off your comments is that you ain't a motivator. You are right though, you have to be critical of yourself, and keep yourself incheck/keep it real with yourself... but at the same time be goal oriented, and don't get too discouraged. a lot of people had some true words of wisdom in this forum. i esp was feelin what beatfanatic had to say, make connections. sometimes its not what you know but who you know.

in the music buisness its not so important to try to duplicate whats popular today as it is to try to invision where the game will be at 5 years from now.(at least thats what i was told). most of my beats to date are thro-backs to the time that is considered by some to be the "golden age" of hip-hop. i dont think these beats will get me fame or lots of money. but i too share the same asperations as every one on this site. i feel for me to know where hip-hop is going i have to first realize where its been! so i've spent alot of time learning old school techniques in order to create that genuine vintage sound. just recently i have started to create a more original and up to date sound.

another thing to think about is when you here songs from major producers, these guys have access to all the top of the line equip. dont feel bad cause yours doesnt sound as good. all of them made beats with much less and worked on their craft for years before making it. dont misinerperate this, its not what you use its how you use it.

Yeah i was gonna say the same thing Empire. Most top notch producers out rite now use state of the art equipment when making beats so they got that fresh sound or what u would call it industry sound. Its not that people on this site cant make beats or are wack its jus that they need to step their game up in regards of equipment they use. And BELIEVE ME who u know in the industry from A&R's to managers to artist goes a LOOOONG WAY, i know that first hand. Start goin to clubs if ur city has a club scene and start meetin artists. Most of the time their roadmanagers are pretty approachable. Hand beat cd's out. Dont jus hand em a cd with ur phone number and ur myspace written with a sharpie lol. Spend 20 dollars go to walmart and get u a covermaker and make u one on the computer. Trust me 9 times out of 10 they gonna take ur shit more serious then jus someone who sent em a beat cd in the mail or one that jus looks like a bootleg out of somebodies trunk.

YEH...I AGREE WITH ALL OF THE ADVICE! IT'S ONE BIG GAME TO GET TO THE TOP...IT'S ALL IN HOW YOU PLAY IT AND WHO YOU KNOW IS ALSO IMPORTANT--JUST KEEP AT IT AND STAY ON YA BUSINESS GRIND

i'm a agree with all the last few posts 4 real. just 1 thing tho. if you get those sticker cover thingies for cds, they do not play right in the car stereos that suck the cd in. the sticker will start peeling off and it may fuck up the cd player

always keep at it, and if someone says u cant do it or ur not good enough keep ur head up and say the hell with em' keep pushin urself to the best of ur abilities and i bet ur gunna be makin the best beats u ever have! i usually take out my emotion on beats...someones hatin on me or stressin my life, i make a beat, depressed, make another, or crunk and hyper, i make another lol
