HOW LONG? 3 Months, 1 Week ago Give Props!: 9
How long does it usually take you to make a beat?
Do you like to rush things and just make 'em or do you take your time?

I Usually Take About 3 days...but im not working on that beat 24 hours out of the day! So I'd Say About 7 Hours Combined Total out of 3 days.

acually it depends on the beat.....

if i'm making a dirty south beat it really don't take that long.

But if i'm making a gutta/gangsta type beat, it takes more time idk why.......

making a hip-hop beat takes the most i think

Theres always a different range for me. It really depends on how fast I get that feeling about a new beat. It could take weeks just to get a good feeling (yall should kno wat that feeling is too). But I tell you one thing thats guarunteed, that feeling only comes wen I start a beat from scratch. It has to be within in a few hours or 30 minutes, non stop. The mastering can wait. I cant start makin a beat--lay down the drums or melody--and stop in the middle of that and say Ill work on it later. The beat just becomes a lost cause because once I go back to work on the beat again Im not in the same mood that I was in when I started making it. NEVER WORKS. Ill sum it up to one day

For me, sometimes I need to distance myself from a beat or music for a while, live my own life. Then when the time comes (like tonight did). I lay down 4 tracks in less than an hour. Now not all of them have been fully perfected like they should have, that will come later.

I find that if I listen to a beat for too long, the first revision I made sounds better than the 32nd revision I made. Many great hip hop producers will let you know it's gotta be in your head first and ready before you even step to the equipment. Lay it down, I laid down a fire track in 15 minutes and then with some extra time later, I'll jazz it up some more, here and there. The key is patience, and never give up.

It depends on the beat...well all my beats come from scratch so it takes time. To get the concept in my head and to think of what instruments I want I will say 5-10 min...but to actually make it will take me about a day or two...simply because i'm new to this and I'm in the process of learning how to mix and master my beats. Also there are times I come back to the beat hours later and hear something different then where I was goind in the first place

Re:HOW LONG? 3 Months ago Give Props!: 3
Depends most beats 15-20 minutes for most beats. To put it in perspective I make maybe 8 or 9 tracks every day. If it takes too long i'll do something new come back to it later. But on some songs I might spend a whole day 24 hours I dont like to stop till I can say there Im done. It doesnt matter if its sampled or original it takes the same time. I dont get the idea in your head thing either. Sometimes I have an Idea most the time I dont. When I do half the time I figure out real quick its a dumb idea and move on. Just put your fingers on the keys play till you hear something you like and go from there. Songs just happen you should not have to think about it at all. Anyway if you dont got something decent in the first 15 min. dont wate your life forceing it. Make a new beat it will probably be better. So basicly I give it around 15 min. If its not working Im not spending any more time on it. Although there is one beat I been fucking with for like well over a year, and when it finally worked out it was so worth it. That was a impossible sample way way off beat but I found way. I would callenge any producer in the game to pull it off. Bet they give up.

Re:HOW LONG? 3 Months ago Give Props!: 3
My work flow has increased dramatically and my most recent beat only took me approximately 35 minutes from start to finish (though you could still call it rough draft) just because I have my reason combinators, custom instruments, favorites, etc and a good ear for it.

The more I switch from Axiom to MPD32 and back while still staying focused the better I do. If a beat is taking longer than 40 mins I'll come back to it another time or another day, just my change on the situation.

Re:HOW LONG? 3 Months ago Give Props!: 3
I like to take my time when making beats. I start by looking for a sample I feel like using, then I might leave it in my head for a few days. Sometimes I start creating the beat right a way, but I've noticed that the samples are usually then things I've thought about earlier.

When I start to create the beat, it takse about an hour to chop the samples and get the drums, basses, and additional sounds that I want to use from the sounds that I've recorded. Then I transfer the sounds from the computer to my mpc and play with it for 2-3 hours. When it feels good, I usually save it and let it be for a day. Then I go back to it and if I'm still satisfied, I start recording the tracks to my computer and do the mixing.

So I'd say that it usually takes 2-4 days.

Man I make my beats in 30 mins or less unless its a special sounding beat to me. Most of those beats I always say I'm going to get back to but I don't make a living off of this and starting from scratch is one of the hypest feelings I get from music. Going back to a beat feels like work to me so I try to finish on the spot. I think its because I'm not disiplined enough to crank hits like that. Just started to dabble with sampling and already I don't like it because it takes too much time to develope and the work put into it, got to admire some of y'all for putting them together like you do. I'm a newbie here just trying to blend and make that ear candy!
