WRONG, Firewire was the answer to USB, Now usb 2.0 is a LOT faster then firewire. Firewire is basically going obsolete just like PCI video cards are. Now there is PCI XPRESS cards.

If you want someting for a good price... get a M-audio Delta 1010 for about 200 dollars or if thats too much a E-MU 0404 is 100. I have a 0404 for sale right now for 70 and im adding my sound collection with it. More then 6 gigz of sounds and if you use reason i have a extra 10 gig refill library.

Yea M-audio has some good one. Or how about Digidesign, The Mbox2 is nice, the Pro is better, and it comes with ProTools...

Digidesign is real real real nice. But thats more of an all around system you use with protools. The Digi003 is the newest version of their hardware. They have the digi 003 Factory (mixer with motorized faders and all that.. plus interface) and the digi003 rack. These are about 2000 to buy. If you have the money then I would recommend it but I thought we were discussing reasonable pricing which most regular amateur producers can afford.

Most people dont have 2000 to dish out in anything let along a audio interface. I had the digi002 factory and loved it. I'll be getting the 003 soon but have to sell my fantom X6 so I can upgrade to the new Fantom G series.. probably getting the G8 since Im a classically trained pianist and want the weighted keys.

Anyways if you have 200 or so then get the M-Audio verson.

I would say to STAY AWAY from the Alesis Multimix mixer/interface. I dont like generic ASIO drivers or anything USB or FIREWIRE for taht matter. You cant beat actual PCI interfaces.

I rock the delta 1010 - its a must have!

Awesome output control!

More inputs then anything else you can get near its price range.

For now, although I'm not recording live vocals the Lexicon Lambda with the www.asio4all.com driver works fine for my purposes. I know it's not an Omega, and EMU, or a digidesign, but it is what it is.

I think this is good advice for bang for the buck. A friend of mine has something like 4 E-MU 0404's in her machine and it seems to work fine for her.

It's too bad the old M-Audio AudioPhile's and such were much better quality then the ones they have now. (IMHO - I've been out of the game for a few years now so... )

Ok so I sold my Delta 1010 and copped a Presonus Firestudio... DAAAAAMN! This is by far the best interface i have personally used. I take back all I said about firewire and USB2.0 interfaces.

This shit is ridiculously dope. Real nice for all my instruments and one cable for input and ouput of the computer.

Just to give yall an idea of how fast it is ...

Im running Cubase SX3. I can run 10 VSTi's like Nexus, Colossus, EWSQOL, Symphonic, etc etc, i have more then 20 recorded audio tracks, 10 other midi tracks, a gang of VST effects for mastering... ALL THIS IS SIMULTANEOUS... running at a 4ms Latency, NOT ONE SINGLE HICCUP. Im amazed.

Presonus came with it.

700 dollar interface that is well worth it.

In real world situations Firewire is much, much better than USB 2.0. The paper specs for 2.0 are outstanding but there is a lot of protocol overhead with USB that slows it down quite a bit. I've never seen anyone get 480mbits per sec like the specs say it should do. Firewire is still the choice of many pro studios, albeit a lot of this has to do with those studios having Macs. Still, Firewire thoroughly out performs USB in the world of data transfer whether it be one way or simultaneous bi-directional transfer.

Depends on what you can afford. I like the 003 pro tools with a midi patch bay the M-audio 8x8. The patch bay just because I have 4 sound modules, 2 keyboards and an mpc. Now I can use 16 midi channels on every piece of equipment if I wanted to!
