I agree wit RBB, that art joint is fresh, low cost, effective, clean, tube, phantom.
fitty or less.
forgive my ignorance but do you even need the fast track?
I'd send it from the MIC to the PRE to the DISK.
is my path math good?

Yeah i have the Samson C01U and its pretty damn good. clear sound but it records in mono (which isn't really a problem for me since I just use it to record vocals) but you can go to the Samson website and download SoftPre for free. It's like a pre-amp for the mic, except on the computer, and should make the tracks stereo when you record...I bought my C01U from a local audio shop for around $80(on sale) and I gotta say that I like it. great product...at least a lot better than the little $30 Radioshack mic I was using b4

Mic pre amp would solve it. I don't know what your budget is but I been using the focusrite trackmaster pro that ran me about 300 you could probably get it cheaper now. It's great for the price and the brand has a good reputation, look it up!
