I'd say start with FL Studio as it is really user friendly, so chances are you wont get too frustrated with it. Once you learn that, try Reason. Reason is a little more complicated than FL Studio, but if you have a good grasp on FL, you'll be able to figure out Reason no problem. Once you figure out both programs, you have unlimited potential in what you can do. Peace!

You dont "work your way up" from FL to reason. They're 2 totally different kinds of programs. Reason will teach you wiring / routing but you cant record audio into it at all or even use VST's or VSTi's. Thats reasons biggest downside. I am very knowledgeable of reason. I can use it and use it well. I just dont like the limitations. I thought that 4.0 would be the answer but I was wrong. Still not able to do the shit I want to with it.

FL studio will teach you the basics of production. Noone can just pick a program and start making crack music with it. IMPOSSIBLE.. especially with no real software of real musical technical knowledge.

Just read all you can and learn as much as you can. But FL would be the best way to start. Cubase or protools would be over your head. Reason may be as well because of the wiring. Still FL used to its potential blows reason out of the water.

All you need is Reason 4.0 and a keyboard and you set!buy some refills down the road!stay fresh!
