You dont "work your way up" from FL to reason. They're 2 totally different kinds of programs. Reason will teach you wiring / routing but you cant record audio into it at all or even use VST's or VSTi's. Thats reasons biggest downside. I am very knowledgeable of reason. I can use it and use it well. I just dont like the limitations. I thought that 4.0 would be the answer but I was wrong. Still not able to do the shit I want to with it.
SOOOOO, If I want to use a reason sound then I just rewire it as a slave into FL studio.

FL studio will teach you the basics of production. Noone can just pick a program and start making crack music with it. IMPOSSIBLE.. especially with no real software of real musical technical knowledge.
Just read all you can and learn as much as you can. But FL would be the best way to start. Cubase or protools would be over your head. Reason may be as well because of the wiring. Still FL used to its potential blows reason out of the water.
