Who is signed by a record company on this site...I see a whole lot of hot beat makers, but if you guys hot why not get signed??? but if your signed by a record company put it down, i want to know..lol

I run my own indie thang at tha moment.

thats nice, but for some reason, not to be offensive towards anyone, im just stating an opinion...I think independant labels lead to nothing, you need money to make money, but record companies give you the money if your talented enough...so i really dont like the idea of starting my own record company or whatever....

I agree with you SCG, i agree...but im to young to go to go to a record company, what does it take, how hard is it?

I think that music is seeing a radical shift, when Major Musicians are DROPPING majorlabels, thats when the Minor Musicians (producers too) need to ask questions like...

Do I really want some fat man I'll never meet sending his great-grand kids to college off of my hard work?

Do I really want to be left like so many of the industries scraps (which most musicians are reduced to by labels) fighting for a spot on some stupid "reality" tv show?.

Look at what danger mouse did with the Grey Album, no label there, just a bootlegged remix - that people loved... I have no idea if or to what label he is now signed, but ... I don't know...


Maybe it's the Saul Williams / Radiohead idea of "Give us money if you want, we're not affiliated with any labels any more....

Makin' money ain't all what music is about,i know alot of peps do it just for the money but they have no soul and you can hear in their music. I gree wit Red beard i rather leave my music along wit my future in the hands of sumone i can trust "ME" not sumone i aint never meet before. My indie thang does pretty damn good,i got my music,my studio,my artist and me and thats it,bulit from the ground up. Don't get me wrong i would love being a major artist but until that day i got my own shit...

Yea, well as an old man, with a little infant to look after, I'd like to just sell a few f'n beats! LOLZ. This is also not my only "business scheme" (all legal btw.). I like to think that if I get my fingers in enough pockets, eventually mine will be full and flowing.

I've booked some shows (didn't make a bunch)
I've recorded some bands (made enough to upgrade my hardware)
I've sold counter culture t-shirts (made $300 in a weekend)....
I'm currently developing a sort of mobile convience store idea....

I encourage you to keep your hunger/dream, let it drive you to accept small successes, and hopefully to more money than you'll know what to do with.

thats cool that you guys have kids and everything, and i know that you still probably strive for your dream...I know music should be a hobby and that what i see it as...But as a 16 year old, i dont feel like waiting, but i have to cause patients is key...and i like how both of you use your buisness schemes to get by, and most of them probably worked...Thanks

Indie labels is basically like running ur own business. Sound lucrative but it takes double the work, and money out ur pocket to start. Then again being signed has downfalls too like not meetin quotas, fear of company goin broke (know someone personally that that has happen to). Cant lie i do wanna be signed to a major and produce beats for def jam or something like that but till that day i stay on my grind.
