Look. we all can't front. A sample is a sample.
What makes a beat to me is structure.
I give props to everyone on this site that is trying to do there thing.
But, in all honesty we all can't bang out the hottest shit every day..it's good to marinate on things.
i've been thru the gmb's the beat traders...i must say this site is getting definately the most traffic, and i like posting on here.
but what it all comes down 2 is keeping hip hop alive!
that's what i am here to do.
i been doing this 2 long to give up and i feel everyone on here that put there beats up on this site IS "TRYING". i will never hate on one single beat that ever gets posted here on mybeatshop.com.
i appreciate this site and it has inspired me to make my own.
One Love to all you Hit Makerz!!
Let's Keep It Going!

i personally dont like sampling much, i rather make sum that i can call mine. how hip hop evolved of course is important but that doesnt mean that you cant creat sumthing different in hopes of keepin the hip hop generation alive. over time things will always change so there is no right or wrong as long as we the producers have the talent n dedication to produce then why not creat. if no one tried to creat we wouldnt have wat ever its is that we have now. everything evolves, that includes music but the truth is, it will never die as long as we keep it moving forward.

Post edited by: million money, at: 2007/05/07 15:36

whether sample or your own creation, hip hop gotta come back and yes, we all gotta keep movin and doin our thing to contribute what we can
i will say making something of your own, does take more musical talent and is harder, but sampling can be real hard too if you flip the sample in a unique way and sometimes add your own shit to the sample like some strings or bass or anything. whats not talent is beats like nitty's its going down for yung joc. that shit is whack. or just throwing some simple drums on a simple looped sample. do ya thing, make it sound good, move along with hip hop.

FL Studio does it all...with FL Studio, alot of people dont know how to use the FPC, which is a digital MPC. It took me a while to figure it out, but it's basically an MPC. So if you don't know how to use FPC, you should try to learn or you're really missing out on one of FL's best capabilities.
Looking back on this post....it seems out of place

I don't really care, cuz it takes a certain talent to pull both off. Many have sampled back in the day, but many were composing original tunes too! I think as long as all the legal work is done for a sample, do whatcha do. The world is our judge when it comes to music. I prefer original, but sampling is fun!

sampling is a style
composing originals is another.
consider them to be two modes of transportation.
they both will take you to a destination,
but ship, or train?
depends on the terrain...
really, we have to let the artist decide which way they travel.
you don't see carnival cruise lines shittin on amtrak.
cuz there's no conflict.
see this like that, and we ca all eat.
Plus, I'm a samplehead born on the SP, touched all mpcs, the ASR x, and x PRO settled on the 2000, and eventually went DAW.
FL has not let me down yet.
and my type of sampling is that underground style where, you won't know I sampled diana ross, disney, sade, And metallica, till I reveal it, I twist them samples ta deth, see?
The type of style people like me use, takes a certain level of talent and it's no humans place to judge which style takes more talent, or skill.
every individual will execute their chosen specialty with a different level of proficiency therefore a style chosen cannot be judged by those who stand out in the publics eye anymore than christianity can be judged by the actions of Benny Hinn, Feel me?

NAQTADEF is right. If you sample or create your own original beat, either one shows where you are as a producer. I've sampled about 20 songs and you can either make it sound like an entirely new song or you can leave it as it is and be lazy. To be original you would basically create your own song from the samples but you have to know how to handle the samples. There have been times were I gave up on a sample cuz it just didn't sound right. Some people keep goin and it can either sound real tight or real horrible. It's all in the technique. I believe that there needs to be less people sampling all their songs unless you can change each one into something new so that you give a new life to the original. That's how I sample, I just wanna give some classics a new vibe. By the way, don't sample James Brown cuz hardly anybody can bring a tighter sound to his jamz unless your as good as him. Think about what ur sampling and why ur samplin it. Peace

I envy both producers who can play piano, and those who can turn samples into jewels. I've been producing for a few years now.. i dont know how to play piano, and i just made my first beat with a sample in it last month. I think that my background in playing trumpet in the 5th and 6th grades helped me understand music to the point that i can produce some pretty nice stuff. I dont think it makes it a difference whether you composed the beat completely by yourself, or if you have the ear to make an old sample we all know sound new and fresh. HipHop did start with sample loops and breakbeats, and there is a reason why DJ's make good producers. But then you get guys like storch, kanye, and timbo that show how a sample or two, mixed with the ability to play, can give you some of the best music being made today.
I think that you people who want to be hiphop producers who refuse to sample, or who refuse to learn to play, aren't really serious about this life. No true artist, who really understands and lives hiphop would lean in either direction. If this is really you?? You'll stand dead in the middle and see the art in all of it.

yea sho i agree with u on that one u can jus look at my beats and see that yea i sample but its not gonna be the only thing in the beat, a sample a kick a hi hat and a snare, ill add my own bassline some melodies things like that... i just love sampling because i feel like its my way of paying homage to the music i grew up on and what i love but i also like to make things from scratch too...oh well anybody who tries to nock anybody elses hustle is wasting precious time and energy to me

Its All The Same Too Me. I Might take a Sample Free Beat, Add A Sample. Replay A sample On The Keys.
Sample A classic Song Like computer love, just becuse
I want to make my own version. Might take a vocal sample and compose a track from that, and then take the sample out. So If you ask me you got be able to do both. Same thing goes for hardware vs software.

composing something from scratch is more original and shows your creativity.

hmmm...
Whats the difference between composing something from scratch (basically playing samples you have in your head on the keys) vs using parts from different kinds of music to play a sample you hear in your head?
What does a guy like me, who can't play, do to get that 'big' sound that only comes from chords or samples? I'm just ass out?
I can't play, and i can barely sample, but i'm a beast at putting beats down, so i tend to see both sides of the argument. 99% of the beats i make are original, so I like original stuff the most... but who can deny producers like Kanye, the Heatmakerz, and Just Blaze because they sample?
