I started when I was about 6 or 7. I quit two years after that though, but I've retained some of the knowledge.

I didn't quit playin the piano, I just stopped takin lessons. I was tired of playing easy shit and my teacher wouldn't let me try harder stuff which I could have handled. I didn't want to waste money, so I just started studying music on my own. I've come a ways from what I used to be able to do.

first off excuse my english !

So I ve started when I was about 8 - 10 y'old
But Ive quit when I was 14 because I thought I need to make other stuff like football etc.

But now Im learning it again but without lesson ... more like bringing it to me for my self.

But in my opinion pianoskills are very helpful in making beats, you can make better unsampled beats or add better melodys to yo samples...

so I will try to get better skills at the piano and to power up my beats with some nice melodies

greetings from germany!

I started playing around 9. I quit taking lessons when I was 13 or 14. I got into guitar around that time. I learned more about piano and theory using the guitar and websites then I ever did taking lessons for 4 years. I started playing piano because I really wanted to learn how to play beauty and the beast. that about it.

Post edited by: DHam, at: 2007/07/30 23:43

I started playing piano at 7. Went to music school piano major for 8 years, but I couldn't stand the classics. Bethoven is my favorite though. Playing different scales at different keys helped to get familiar with the piano. Learning chords helped a lot too. It really shouldn't take much time to get rocking on piano if you have the drive, just like any instrument.

NOW THATS SOME FUNNY SHIT........... BUT I HAVE NEVA TOOK ANY TYPE OF PIANO LESSONS. ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS RAP AND I LET MY DUDDY OJ OR BYRD MAKE THE TRACKS, THEY ALWAYS USED TO TELL ME TO LEARN THIS SHIT! THE FIRST TIME I EVER MADE SOMETHING THAT I WAS PROUD OF, I MADE IT ON A DR5 DRUM MACHINE. BUT WHEN I REALLY STARTED GETTING THE CONCEPT OF MELODIES, BASS-LINES , QUANTIZING,ETC.. I WAS ON A KORG N364. HELL IM REALLY A BEGINNER FOR REAL WITH MAKING BEATS CONSISTENTLY OR WHATNOT, BUT I BEEN DOIN IT FOR OVER A DECADE OFF AND ON. SO I GUESS I TAUGHT MYSELF .

Re:Playin tha piano 1 Year, 2 Months ago Give Props!: 0
I started playing piano when I was 8. I only took lessons for about 6 months and quit after my instructor made me play "Oh Christmas Tree" in a recital. I picked it up again when I majored in classical guitar at a community college. There, I minored in piano.

To start, learn scales and play with a metronome at really slow speeds, varying combinations of 1/4 notes, 8th notes, and 16th notes. Learn the circle of fifths, and practice your 2, 5, 1's; the most standard of chord progressions. Oh yeah, Pick up a chord progression book or look up an online directory. Have fun. It just takes time and practice.

I actually started at an early age, but gave up music for 20 years (fa real). I wish I woulda stuck wit it tho, cuz my passion came back after I started picking at the piano. I'm still learning to read notes and leard to make chords.
Edde Kane...the quiet 1.
