About a week ago, me and one of my production partners got into a heated discussion about whether to start your beat with your drums and 808 first or start a melody with sounds. There is no clear way you have to do it but I wondered how do different producers start their beats? holla back

Recently cuz I got some new hypersonic sounds, i try to run a nice riff first then go to the drums, but usually I get my drum pattern bouncin and then slide in my riffs

A good producer can do both. I feel it depends on the beat.

I've found for me that tha melody defines tha drum pattern. So I always start with tha melody. Tha melody is most likely gonna be tha most memorable thing in ur song so you gotta have a basis for ur songs atmosphere. Then when you start to feel ur melody, picture in ur mind what rythym will best fit tha flow of ur song. Tha whole song seems to flow better when you start with tha melody. That's how I see it.

i can go either way but i think a clean ass bassline will really set off your beat... but a good solid melody is the way i usually start the beat

lol i can start either way, but I PERFER!!!!! to start with the instruments becuz the drums are easy!!!!!!!!!!

Just want Point Out that a 808 is a drum. I keep getting rappers like yea put a 808 on it and the beat will already be 808 up. They think its bass. If I Put Some Sub Bass on the track mugs is like Yea thats dat 808 and im Like no, no its not. It Dont Matter How You start a beat. When I first Started Out Always did the drums first, but I dont do that anymore. Its more Flexible without drums beacuse you just add drum tracks that you already have flip through them till you find the right one or add them to the melody.

me i do both but latley i get the drums cracking first to get the feel of the beat but you can do it the other way to.

an 808 is a type of drum. But their are several drums that are not 808s. so i said drums and 808. just to clear the mix up

it doesnt matter something i start with sounds or sometimes i start with drums

my beat turn out totally different depending on what i start off with first.

drums = more club feel/grimey.

melody's = more rnb/experimental

i usually take turns every month.

B4 the drums and the melodies, you gotta get inspired first coz it wont matter what follows next. Formulas make 4 dull music!!!
