Yo,
I'm new to Mybeatshop (haven't even loaded up a beat yet), but here's my two cents.
I hear somethin in your head and can lay it down, yeah that's talent. But if you can hear somethin in a classic track or a different Genre (i.e. Country, techno, Classical etc.) and merge a piece of it with what you hear in your head....that's genius.
Make people feel a track that they wouldn't otherwise even care to listen to.
Add a hot verse over that joint and make someone's head knod...Now, that's hip hop.

I like alot of songs that are made with samples. Shure, clearing them for a commercial release could be devastating, but I think sampling is hot. Original compostition wins of cause because there's no expenses for clearing the sample. But if you don't know how to play instruments but can flip a hot sample together, then I bow down to you, I mean only if it's hot like "Prince" or "Heard It All" by Aviles for example: http://www.mybeatshop.com/Aviles

I'm with you on this one, im old school and I like to play my shit and not worry about clearing anything. If you really think about it they are stilling someone else's creativity and saying they produced it, no they arranged somebody else's production. Sampling phrases sure why not but you still have to clear them. No music my personal opinion "stop stealing music and create some notes" HA! For the ones that can create and still sample at least you can create. The only time I sample is if a customer ask me for it and they sign an agreement saying that they are responsible for the clearing! Note: I'm not lashing out at people who sample do you if thats all you can do and thats what you want to do do it. I know every time I publish a song "by the way you can look me up on ascap (Ken Hart)" I don't have to worry about clearing sh*t!

Creative Sampling is the only way sampling gets legit not just looping old records etc. Otherwise sampling sucks !!!

Sorry but i really disagree with your statement. Now i dont sample just for the simple fact that everytime i try it doesnt come out right so i respect both...because no matter what your still being creative no matter how somebody wants to look at it

QUOTE: I feel what you sayin Davinci, I think sampling can be judge on a lot of levels tho, means, some people that have real ability, ie kanye, just blaze or premier, to take a normal sample and flip it, to where u kno its a sample, but u cant figure it out for shit lol, thats talent, now people like the hitmakers who just loop shit up and throw the same drums on every track well yea thats a cop out, anyone can loop up some soul, change the bitch add a boom bap, and call it a hit. Those that can compose some shit, Im envy u lol Im bout to go to the Y and take some keyboard classes lol step my game up holla
Sampling is what hip-hop music was founded on man. But too much of any good thing can go bad. Niggas that just take a James Brown sample, loop it, and throw some drums on top, are just recycling music. It takes real skill to take a sample and make it your own. When using a sample you've still got to call on the composing skills that someone making a beat from scratch would use. One beat to think about is Just Blaze's "Kingdom Come" beat. He chopped it up so funky, to the point where you really had to know Super Freak to realize that's what he sampled.
Me personally don't use samples too much only because my 1) My equipment won't let me and 2) I can't seperate the vocals from the instrumentals. But whatever you choose to do make sure you do it well.
Producing that fire that makes you go "hmmm".

I see what all ya sayin and I respect everyones perspective. Up until about a month ago I sampled all tha time. I stopped after hearing somebody sample a song that was written to honor those in a tragedy. Now people disagreed with me but that's their opinion. But I thought for a long time and asked myself why should I continue sampling? I didn't have a good reason but I did think about all these artists in the past and how much thought they had to of put into their music. The artist who wrote a song that could have taken them weeks, months, maybe even years to finish. Then we take a part of their song that we like and use that to add drums, bass and whatever else we wanted to try and make it our "own". Which usually takes longer, creating your own original composition or sampling another song and working around that? What i've found is to create a song equally as great as the one u might sample, it will take longer to create ur own. Music is about patience and inventiveness. Even though those can be a part of sampling, it's not as powerful as every element in ur song coming from ur own mind.
