There's a lot of misinformation in this thread.

ProTools is an industry standard, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's best for your uses. People are talking about spending $750 on sale for pro tool bundles, and they haven't mentioned a a single advantage the software has over other software. Seriously, come on. These are incredibly useless responses.

As for the whole matter of taking your projects to a ProTools studio and picking up where you left off...yeah, that can happen, but it most likely won't, because the odds are that the studio you go to won't have the exact plugs that you're using, meaning they're either going to have to be rendered or substituted for. That puts you in the exact same situation as if you were using another DAW.

Can someone definitively talk about the advantages of PT?

Yes, 1)Great recording system. 2)You can produce, record, mix and master all in one system. 3)It's the industry standard, which means you can bet that at least 90% of all major studios have it. Probably about 50% of serious home recording studios have it too. So doing collabs is easy!

If you are a FL Studio producer It will not run on a mac system like mines but you can always bounce the music and bring it in or have your FL mix go from the pc computer to your mac through the Pro tools hardware like I do!

Can't wait till Pro tools 8 come out this week!

cubase, logic, sonar, pro-tools= SAME TOOLS DIF. PROGRAMS.

dont listen to people saying u need pro tools if you are going to take your stuff to a proffessional studio. why? because in post production they are going to want your track files dry, with NO FX, all your eq's turned off, all they want is your raw WAV files with nothing added. all your reverbs, delay's compression plugs wont matter in post productions or mastering, and just about every DAW on the planet imports wav files.

but to the question "is it worth it?" im sure it is, just as sonar cubase and logic and even reaper are worth it.

its only industry standard because digidesign has been around a long time and alot of studio's are locked into long term contracts with digidesign and therefore have to use pro tools as there sequencer. dont believe that every major studio is using it though, im sure a fair amount are using sonar as well as logic.

There's a lot of hype around Protools. I Think it's real is for tracking live instruments and some of the plugs are niiice.

I wanna try protools 8.

I've already said earlier that it is the industry standard whether in terms of compatibility between systems. Make your beats however you want but if you want to get them to a larger audience that could have be a better venture for you, use Protools at during or at the end of the creation, mixing, and mastering process and save it in full format including sounds.
